Town Council of the Town of= Ellicott

held at = the Administration Building,

215 S. Work Street, Falconer, N.Y. on

January = 19, 2009 at 7:00 P.M.

 

Present: Supervisor Miller, Councilman Orlando= , Councilman Beckerink, Councilman Lodestro, Councilman Heintzelman, Town Clerk Erlandso= n, Highway Superintendent Shellhouse, Legislator Barmore, Attorney Wright.

 

Supervisor Miller open= ed the meeting at 7:00 PM and led the Town Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.    Town Clerk Erlandson called t= he roll. 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

MOTION by Councilman Lodestro, seconded by Councilman Heintzelman to accept the minutes of the January 5, 2009 meeting as presented by the Town Clerk.=

CORRESPONDENCE

 

        &= nbsp;   Town Clerk Erlandson read the following items into the record:=

1.      Notification that the = Wilson Farms/Sugar Creek Store loc= ated at 202 W. Main Street, Falconer will be closing permanently, effective February 7, 2009.

TOWN OFFICERS’ REPORTS

 

Counc= ilman Lodestro reported that the Ellicott Facilities Committee met last week.  He outlined the committee’s objectives for 2009.&nbs= p; In particular, he noted that the roof on the Ellicott Administration Bldg. is in dire need of repair.  He stated that the estimated cost of repairing the roof is $50,000.00.  He explained that the committee is= looking into several potential funding sources to finance the repairs.

 

Mr. L= odestro also reported that the Ellicott Police Committee met last week.  He stated that the Ellicott Police= Chief has requested permission to advertise for bids for the sale of a used 1998 Chevrolet Lumina.  The Council granted him permission= to move ahead with the sale.

 

Counc= ilman Heintzelman reported that the Town of Ellicott received a $4,500.00 grant from the Southern Tier West Development Foundation.  He explained that the funding will be used to help finance the new T= own of Ellicott Comprehensive Plan which is currently being developed.

Councilman Orlando reported that he is continuing to work with the Ellicott Cemetery Committee re the purchase of flags for veterans’ gravesites in the cemeteries located within the Town of Ellicott.

Super= visor Miller reported that he, Councilman Orlando & Highway Superintendent Shellhouse would be meeting with Village of Celoron= officials on Jan. 22, 2009 to discuss “shared service” possibil= ities.

 

Mr. M= iller also suggested that the Town Council conduct a future meeting at the Fluvanna Free Library.  The Council agreed.  Town Clerk Erlandson will make the arrangements.

OLD BUSINESS

 

Partial Tax Exemption = for 1 & 2 Family Residences – The Town Council discussed a proposal to= provide a partial exemption from town property t= axes for certain capital improvements to one and two family owner-occupied residential dwellings.  (Minut= es 1/5/09)  The Council decided t= o take no action on the matter at the present time.
